Election Day: No Rain, No Excuses, No More Ads
Monroe UnfilteredElection Day is here, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the weather has decided to cooperate. Expect areas of fog before 9 a.m., which will make the early shift feel a bit like a spy movie, then mostly sunny to partly cloudy with a high near 70°F and no rain in sight. Tuesday night cools to the mid to upper 40s, with patchy fog returning after 9 p.m. for anyone still counting. That matters, because weather can nudge voter turnout. A dry 70-degree Tuesday in November takes away any excuse for staying on the couch.
Yes, voting is our sacred duty as Americans. It is also the finish line for the infernal ads. The robocalls that ring at dinner, then ring again, from a number that looks suspiciously like your neighbor’s. The flyers jammed so hard into the mailbox that you need a spatula to extract your electric bill. Cast your ballot, and by Wednesday your phone is for friends, your mailbox opens without a fight and your television goes back to selling you trucks and mattresses. Democracy is a wonderful thing. So is quiet.
