DAILY WEATHER

Ella Fitzgerald could have sung yesterday’s forecast because we had some stormy weather, though nowhere near as bad as our Garden State neighbors who had actual tornadoes. There are only 49 people left without power this evening as of this drafting, so we got out relatively unscathed.

The rest of the week looks quite a bit better. Today we will have partly cloudy skies, a modest 14 percent chance of rain, and a high near 81°F with a light breeze out. The rest of the work week holds the line nicely: sunny and 80°F Thursday, mostly sunny and 82°F Friday. The only remaining storm will be the arrival of my mom in the Poconos.

The weekend looks lovely. It will be mostly sunny with a high of 79°F Saturday. Sunday will be partly cloudy with a high of 82°F, while a slightly better chance of rain (22 percent) creeps back in. As an aside, does anyone know the difference between “mostly sunny” and “partly cloudy?”

In any case, if you have been saving up outdoor plans, we finally have a good stretch!

DID YOU KNOW? HISTORY WITH A TWIST: STARS AND STITCHES FOREVER

The Monroe County Historical Association's Stars and Stitches Forever Quilt Challenge asked local quilters to stitch a quilt honoring America's 250th birthday. The challenge: trace your family's journey to what is now Monroe County, keep it to 30 inches by 30 inches, and work at least one star into the design.

The results are on display through December 11 in the Hughes Community Room at the Stroud Mansion's new Heritage Center. Admission to the quilt exhibit runs three dollars for non-members; MCHA members and Challenge entrants get in for free. Full mansion admission, for anyone making a day of it, is priced separately. Check the Monroe County Historical Association website for details on the exhibit.

WHAT WERE YA THINKIN'

He who is without sin. The Bible makes clear that only “he who is without sin should cast the first stone.” This lesson was lost on a set of delinquents near SR 314 and Summit Road who, according to Pocono Township Police, spent the early morning hours of July 20 throwing multiple rocks at a passing vehicle. The investigation is still open with no suspect identified. Anyone with information is asked to contact Pocono Township Police.

SILVER LININGS

The Borough capped a day of community projects, funded by a $32,500 America250PA grant administered through Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful with support from EQT Corporation, with a first-ever heroes’ dinner honoring the residents who gave their time. The grant backed seven projects around town, including cleanups, park improvements, revitalization work, river sweeps, graffiti abatement, and murals. Details on future volunteer opportunities are on the Borough's website.
